The secondaries are back at it again for a first-ever PGB mock draft with special guest "Saginaw Slim" Rob Stricker, a long-time friendly foe of Dave Spurrier, Costco Chuck and The Basil King. Listen in as they take over management of your team for an hour. Also, three more Friends of PGB have offered up their Top 20 AL rookies, but listen to the podcast first before digging into these tasty prospect nuggets:
GM #1: Jeff Hicklin
I have 40 years’ experience in STRAT. and have played in 5 leagues over the years most recently focusing on 2 leagues adding a third this last season. I have been the first 3-time champion in both leagues and have won many division championships 8 in a row in a 24 team league. It’s not hard to draft the first 5-6 picks every year. It gets tough drafting 12-24 when there are no clear-cut choices. I like Adell Singer Huff Crochet better than others..

He has played for 55 years and prides himself on doing quite a lot of personal research for the draft. His strength is drafting talent. and doesn’t wheel and deal much with his roster. He has won his share of titles over the years and loves offense while pitching is secondary

I have been playing Strat since my college days. That is 40 years, long before computers when everything was done by hand and by mail. I am in 2 leagues now, one for the past 30 years and the other in year number 3. I have won only 1 World Series but am usually competitive enough to reach the postseason. I have on occasion have had some really bad teams that allowed me to have the #1 overall pick. 1. Luis Robert 2. Jo Adell 3. Nick Madrigal 4. Triston McKenzie 5. Casey Mize 6. Tarik Skubal 7. Only one week left to see how your rankings stack up against these long-time savvy Strat veterans. HUGE THANKS to Rob, Jeff, Bill and Brad for partnering with PGB—you guys are awesome! Remember, the draft starts on Monday, February 8 at 7:00 ET, 6:00 CT. We love the draft!
Podcast was lots of fun. Thanks for having me on. Not sure where Chuck got "Saginaw Slim" from though.
This Christmas I received from my Detroit-native brother-in-law a gift card for a local place that specializes in Detroit-style. I'm waiting for just the right time to launch a podcast from there and give the Groundouts the inside story. And look, I 100% appreciate Rob coming in and helping our league out and sharing his Strat wisdom, but franchise pizza? Stay in your lane, man.
also... PS. How are we all NOT up to date on Detroit style pizza???
I was wondering if you guys had any experience with Detroit style pizza. It looks realy good to me, and I was thinking about getting a pan and making some, as it looks amazing!
When I saw the strat years played by the guys above... I thought... holy crap... these guys have played forever. They must be ancient! Then I remembered I began playing strat (basic cards) with my friends using leftover bits of 1969 and 1971 sets... and bought my first entire league card set for the 1974 season... which is now 46 years ago. yikes.
the days are long, and the years are short!
Great podcast! Again, I always love to hear an outside strat-tuned educated opinion. Thanks for getting Rob on here. I know first hand he's a terrific strat player.
Love all the additional content you guys have provided this year. Keep it up!
