In an exciting series, #5 seed Pensacola took on the #4 seed Santa Catalina. Series MVP Justin Turner's performance would help lead Pensacola to a 5-game series victory.
In game one, Dylan Cease would give up 8 runs in 2 innings, but Santa Catalina led by Frank Schwindel chipped away at DeGrom even with his 17 strikeouts to narrowly lose 10-7. Justin Turner's 2 run homerun in the 7th would put the game just out of reach.
In game two, the run scoring dried up and the game would be a tale of two homeruns. Santa Catalina's Frank Schwindel would help take a 2-0 lead in the 5th with a blast. Anthony Rizzo would hit a clutch grand slam in the 8th to steal the win for the Crackers in a 4-2 victory.
In Pensacola for game 3, the Cowboys would rough up Kershaw early for 4 runs in the first. Juan Soto would help rally the Crackers with two solo homeruns and Justin Turner would hit a game tying homerun in the 4th. Then in the bottom of the 5th, Soto would step up to the plate again and deliver another solo shot predicted by the Cowboys manager. That would end the scoring as both offenses would be held in check by the bullpens as the final score would end 5-4.
In Game 4, Tyler Glasnow would silence the Crackers to only 1 run with 11 strikeouts in 7 and 2/3 innings holding. Mookie Betts would take revenge on his former team with a homerun and 2 RBI to win the game 4-1.
Game 5 would watch Cease unfortunately lose control and give up 8 runs in 1 and 2/3 innings in a game where Pensacola would run away to a 12-4 victory behind Justin Turner's 5 RBI performance.
Congratulations Sam on your series victory. Well played.⚾️
